It began with one very long afternoon.
A mother, trying to put together a single good gift for a friend's new baby.
She went from shop to shop. Something lovely in one. Something useful in another. A small wooden something she was not certain went with either.
Nothing matched. Nothing came in anything worth opening. By the time it was wrapped it looked like three separate gifts in one bag, and none of them said what she had wanted to say.
Because that is the thing about giving to a new baby. You are not really buying an object. You are trying to tell a family that you are glad they exist.
So she made the thing she had spent the whole afternoon looking for. Everything chosen together. Arriving in one box. Ready to be given — so that the next mother would not have to spend her Saturday doing what she had just done.
That is how Pythal began.
